Using the WS_FTP LE Program for File Transfer

You may share files with others via File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Below are the instructions for doing this on the IANR FTP server using the WS_FTP LE program.

To open the WS_FTP LE program, click on Start > Programs > WS_FTP > WS_FTP95 LE (name may be slightly different). OR, double-click on your WS_FTP desktop shortcut.

If you have a profile set up for the users.waymark.net server, use the drop down arrow by Profile Name: in the "Session Properties" dialog box and select that profile and click on the OK button.

If you don't already have a profile set up for the users.waymark.net server, you need to set one up:

1. Click on the New button.
2. Enter a Profile Name: name - it can be anything, for example: Personal Website for Diane
3. Enter the Host Name/Address: users.waymark.net
4. Host Type: should be Automatic detect (this should be selected already).
5. Click in the box in front of DIALUP USERNAME to select it (if it is not already selected). This will enter anonymous for the User ID.

6. Enter a Password:. This is normally your dialup password. You may select the Save Pwd option to save the password so you don't need to enter it each time. We do NOT recommend saving passwords on lab machines.

7. Click on the OK button. This will make your connection and open a window similar to the one below.

Navigating in WS_FTP LE

Double-clicking on a folder (directory) will open it.
You can tell which folder is open by looking at the top line. In the screen shot above, the 1Downloads folder is open on the local computer (left-hand pane).

Double-clicking on the green up arrow will move you up one level.
For example, if you are currently looking at files in the C:\1Downloads\DAT folder, double-clicking on the green up arrow will open the C:\1Downloads folder, double-clicking again will open C:\.If you need to make a folder (directory), click on the MkDir button and enter a name. Click on OK.

This will put the new folder (directory) into whichever folder (directory) is already open. It is recommended that you create a folder on the server for your files. This will make it easier to find your files.

If you need to delete a file, click on the file to select it and click on the Delete button. Click on OK.

If you need to delete a folder, you first need to delete the contents. You can only delete an empty folder.
